D. Chad Esch is the owner and president of Bannan Funeral Home in Alpena and Hillman, MI. Chad is a licensed funeral director who is originally from Pigeon, MI. He studied at Wayne State University and graduated in 1998, shortly after, a full-time position opened up in Alpena, MI at Bannan Funeral Home in 1999. Chad and his wife, Sharon, came to Alpena to check the area out, and instantly they both knew they loved it “Up North”. He accepted the position at Bannan Funeral Home, and worked under William Mischley for seven years, before buying Bannan Funeral Home in December 2006. Chad has stayed dedicated to his business and profession over the years, and continues to proudly serve the greater Alpena and Hillman communities.
When Chad is not working around the clock at Bannan Funeral Home, his presence is still evident in the community. He is a past President and current member of the Alpena Lions Club, a current board member of the Downtown Development Authority for the past eight years, a past President of the Alpena Chamber of Commerce, and a current board member of its economic development committee. Chad also has been active in local hockey boards. Professionally, Chad has been an active member of Michigan Funeral Directors Association, and currently is serving as District 9 President.
Chad is a family man that loves to spend time with his family doing some of their favorite activities together. Chad married his beautiful wife, Sharon, in July 1995, and together have two children that are both in college. Their oldest is their daughter, Morgan, who recently graduated from Alpena Community College, and will be a junior at Saginaw Valley State University in fall 2017, where she will be studying Special Education and Principalship. Their youngest is their son, Nicholas, who recently graduated from Alpena High School, and will be a freshman at Alpena Community College in fall 2017, where he will be studying Mortuary Science, and hopes to take over the family business in the future. One of the activities Chad enjoys doing with his family is spending time at Grand Lake, where they like to tube, fish, swim, and barbecue. He also enjoys educating himself about famous landmarks and events in history, as well as, relaxing and traveling the world with his family.
