Obituary

Mrs. Eleanor Mack passed away peacefully at home under the loving care of her family and the compassionate attention of Hospice of Michigan on April 5, 2021. She was born October 12, 1922 in Detroit, Michigan to Sylvester and Irene (Timmins) Cavanagh. On September 3, 1949, Eleanor married John Joseph Mack and they resided in Alpena, MI since June 1953. Judge John Mack preceded Eleanor in death on May 23, 1984.

Eleanor was a member of St. Bernard's Parish and St. Bernard's Altar Society. She enjoyed serving as a member of Besser Museum, the Founders Society, and Friends of the Library. She was also a former member of Alpena County Board of Canvassers.

Eleanor was a graduate of Marygrove College and taught in Detroit Public Schools for 6 years prior to moving to Alpena. After lovingly raising her five children, she taught for 14 years at Alpena Community Co-Op Nursery School and remembered all of her young students fondly, just as many of them recall her inspiring their early education.

Eleanor is survived by four sons and one daughter: Timothy of Alpena, John Patrick of Petoskey, Michael (Cheryl) of Alpena, Dennis (Rebecca) of Okemos, and Margaret Mack (Dennis Lusk) of Tarpon Springs, FL. She is also survived by her great joys, five grandchildren: Colin, John, Elizabeth, Katherine, and Cara.  She is survived by one sister and one brother, Joan Murphy of Ft. Myers, FL and Michael (Patricia) Cavanagh of East Lansing, MI, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John as well as her dear sister, Ann Kellett and her cherished brothers, Paul and Jerome Cavanagh.
