William 'Russ' Bates

William Russell Bates, 84, of Alpena passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Medilodge of Alpena.

Russ was born August 1, 1938, in Chesaning, Michigan to the late Earl and Thelma (Detwiller) Bates. He served in the United States Army. Russ worked at the cement plant until his diving accident. He was a member of the Elks and enjoyed flying his airplane Cessna.

Surviving are his brother, Charles (Peggy) Bates and several nieces and nephews. Russ was preceded in death by his sisters, Dixie Collins and Joyce Walker.

A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery. Arrangements have been made by the Bannan Funeral Home.
