Wesley Maynard Thiem, 88, of Hubbard Lake passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at Hillman’s Haven.
Wesley was born December 14, 1933, in Alpena County to the late Arnold and Theresa (Hoffer) Thiem. He served in the United States Air Force. On October 21, 1961, he married Viola (Eller) Shooltz. Wes owned and operated Wes Thiem Lumbering, retiring in 1995. He was an active volunteer and Chief of Hubbard Lake Fire Department for over 50 years. Wes was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving are his wife, Viola; four daughters, Debra (Karl) Holsworth, Christine (Thomas) Rondeau, Lori (John) Jagoda, Carla (Glen) Kowalski; 13 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; sister, Irene Niver; brother-in-law, Harry Nawrock; several nieces and nephews.
Wesley was preceded in death by four siblings, Charles Thiem, Jerry Doering, Marilyn Liske, and Rose Marie Nawrock.
Visitation will take place Monday at Hope Lutheran Church from 11 a.m. until the funeral service at 1 p.m. with Rev. Mike Kelley officiating; followed by the Bell Ceremony by Thunder Bay Area Firefighters Association. Arrangements have been made by the Bannan Funeral Home.
