Thomas E. Homant, 86, passed away peacefully at his home in Traverse City on March 4, 2022, with his family by his side.
Tom was born in Flint, Michigan on May 26, 1935, to the late Leo and Helen (Willitts) Homant. He married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Ritsen, on September 29, 1956. He served two years in the United States Army during the Korean War and then returned to Alpena as owner/operator of Homant Oil Company, Inc.
Tom enjoyed life to the fullest and was the happiest when surrounded by his family. He immensely enjoyed his time golfing, fishing, playing cribbage and spending time at the hunting camp. He especially enjoyed road trips on his motorcycle and loved spending winters in Florida with his wife.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia, his children, Cathy (Jim) Matuszak, Ed (Deb) Homant, and Jeff (Ashley) Homant. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Tom was preceded in death by his great granddaughter, Jerzi Homant; siblings, Bonnie Seguin, Delores Snow, and Joseph Homant.
Memorial visitation will take place on Thursday at St. Anne Church of All Saints Parish from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon with Rev. Michael Lingaur officiating. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Bannan Funeral Home.
