Roy Wallace Sommerfeld, 88, of Alpena passed away Monday, September 12, 2022, at his home.
Roy was born September 5, 1934, in Alpena to the late Theodore and Alvina (Schalk) Sommerfeld (the eighth of 10 children). On August 23, 1958, he married Darlene Hopp. Roy was employed by Huron Portland Cement for many years and later owned Kitchen Tune-up for a number of years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church (having served as Lay Minister, trustee and usher), past president and honorary member of Lost Acres Hunting Club, past member of Jaycees, German American am See Club, and volunteered at the Friendship Room. Roy enjoyed fishing, hunting camp, bowling, gardening, puzzles, and bus trips.
Surviving are his wife, Darlene; three children, David (Becky) Sommerfeld, Annette (Sam) Timm, Daniel (Suzanne Hawes) Sommerfeld; grandchildren, Matthew (Kim Gilbert) Sommerfeld, Chase Sommerfeld, Ashten (Sam) Berriman, Haley (David) Wadzinski, Zachary (Alyssa Miriani) Timm, Wil Hawes; great grandchild, Gwendolyn Sommerfeld; brothers-in-law, Robert Nelson, Richard Braidwood; and many nieces and nephews.
Roy was preceded in death by siblings, Ralph Sommerfeld, Donald Sommerfeld, Elmer Sommerfeld, Lois Turski, Norvel (Butch) Sommerfeld, Rita Nelson, Betty Baker, Myles Sommerfeld, and Eunice Braidwood.
Memorial visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home on Thursday from 2-8 p.m. and will continue on Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m. with Rev. James Erickson officiating.
