Norma Beatrice Gougeon, 96, of Alpena passed away Sunday, December 4, 2022, at Medilodge – Alpena surrounded by her family.
Norma Beatrice Couture was born in Alpena County on June 19, 1926, to the late Frederick and Rose (Simmel) Couture. She graduated from County Normal and taught in the country schools: Spain (Cathro) and Lee (Ossineke). On August 24, 1946, she married Junior Gougeon. He preceded her in death on March 24, 2012. Norma enjoyed being a homemaker, caring for her large family, baking, cooking and sewing. Her love also showed by opening her already crowded home to a couple of kids that needed a loving place to stay for a while. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Parish, and charter member of Daughters of Isabella, Circle 975.
Surviving are 7 children, Steven (Allison) Gougeon, Terry (Judy) Gougeon, Rick (Teresa) Gougeon, Jon (Kitty) Gougeon, Wanda Rose Gougeon, Martin (Wanda Christine) Gougeon, Matthew (Jennine Frazier) Gougeon; 16 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Aube; several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Gougeon was preceded in death by a son, Brian Gougeon; 5 siblings, William Couture, Rose Brown, Margaret Robinson, Irma Collins and Mary Rouleau.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday at the Bannan Funeral Home from 2 – 8 p.m. with a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday at St. Anne Church of All Saints Parish from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. Tyler Bischoff officiating.
