Nancy Carol Bergquist died Saturday (September 11, 2021) at Medilodge of Alpena.

Nancy Carol Hein was born Sept. 12, 1939, in Rogers City, the eldest child of Carl and Virginia (Burzych) Hein. They lived in Detroit from 1942 until moving to Lachine in 1947. Nancy graduated from Alpena Catholic Central High School in 1957 and from Alpena Community College in 1959. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University and taught in a rural one-room school at Standish and for several years in Flint area schools. She later worked in sales at Samoa Lumber Co., Office Products Center, and Genesee Ceramic Title. Nancy was a former religious education teacher at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Flint.  In 2013, she retired and moved to Alpena. She was a resident of Medilodge of Alpena since October 2018. Nancy was known for her senses of wonder and humor and a mischievous smile.

She is survived by two sons, Scott (Michelle) and Kyle Bergquist of Flint; two daughters, Dawn Plantz of Mt. Morris and Laura (Bill) Young of Burton; 13 grandchildren, Nicole, Kyle, Lindsay and Nate Bergquist; Rebekah and Ashleigh Plantz; Randy and Brent Wagner; Joshua and Tyler Jamison, Duane McComb, all of the Flint area; Aaron McComb of Fostoria; Erik Shaddeau of Hobart, Indiana; and 14 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her brothers, Kennth (Carol) Hein of Troy and Gary Hein of Lachine, and her sister, Carlene Przykucki of Alpena, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Robert V. Bergquist Jr., and one grandchild, David.

Visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home on Friday from 2-8 p.m. and where the funeral service will take place on Saturday at 11 a.m.  with Rev. Tyler Bischoff officiating.

Interment: Long Rapids Cemetery
