Mildred Fluksa, 88, of Alpena, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at Turning Brook. “Millie” was born on December 9, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Joseph and Eva Fluksa (Hanisek). She grew up on Horton Street in Detroit, Michigan and later moved to East Detroit. She was the youngest and last surviving member of her siblings; Mary Adler (David), Helen Janosik (Andrew), John Fluksa, and Margaret Kline (Alvin).
Millie was raised and educated in Detroit. As a registered nurse, she worked as an Occupational/Industrial Nurse at Michigan Bell Telephone Company in Detroit. One day while picking up her ill pregnant sister who worked there, she walked past the medical unit, became intrigued and applied. So began her career. Mildred was a proud nurse who took her job very seriously. She moved to Alpena, was Head Nurse of the ICU and then worked in the psych unit and the drug and alcohol rehab unit at the Alpena General Hospital. At the hospital, she was fortunate to have worked alongside her dear friend, Fran Homant. She was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was a daily fixture at the Big Boy restaurant. She absolutely loved dogs, watching the clock on days when the therapy dogs visited Turning Brook, fondly reminiscing about Koyko, Annie, Heidi, Mitzy, Tootsie, Lady and the many other fine animals that she rescued over the years. Millie was an avid reader and liked crossword puzzles. She kept everyone on their toes with her acerbic comments.
Millie is survived by her nieces and nephews; John Kline (Mary Kay), Eva Kline-Rogers (Bruce), Joseph Kline (Lori), Mary Morris (Mark), Michael Kline (Stacy, deceased), Ruth Kline-Robach (James), Lois Kline, James Kline, Mark Adler (Debbie), Margaret Millard (Greg), and Karen Brackett (Peter). She was predeceased by her nephew, Donald Adler (Mariann) and survived by numerous other extended family members.
Visitation will take place Friday, September 4, 2020 at St. Anne Church of All Saints Parish from 2 p.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 3 p.m. with Rev. Scott Lawler officiating. Arrangements by Bannan Funeral Home.
Interment: Pilgrims Rest Cemetery
