Mary Elizabeth Dege, 66, of Presque Isle passed away at MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena on Tuesday, November 16, 2021.
Mary Elizabeth Freyer was born in Red Bank, New Jersey to the late Frank and Phyllis (Emerson) Freyer on April 23, 1955. She retired from Michigan Department of Corrections in 2012 after 26 years and worked eight years at Springport schools driving bus.
On February 4, 2005, she married David Dege. Mary enjoyed reading, the casino, cooking, playing games, camping, a good crime show; and especially watching the freighters and the lighthouse shine at night. She was very proud of her writing award from Jackson Community College.
Mary is survived by her husband, Dave; two daughters, Marianne Dege, Lindsay (A.J.) Updyke; two grandchildren, Annabelle, Elliott; three siblings, Robert (Edith) Freyer, Frank (Pam) Freyer, Caryl (Steve) Briseno; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Dege was preceded in death by her granddaughter Jacquelyn, her brother, Kurt Freyer, her sister, Pat Krause and her father-in-law, John Dege where there was much good-natured teasing, banter and a lot of love and laughter.
A celebration of Mary's life will take place on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at Klavon's Pizzeria and Pub (318 W. Kipp Rd Mason, MI 48854). The celebration will be from 4-7 pm in the mezzanine, open house style to accommodate limited capacity.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Bannan Funeral Home.
