Mark Jones

Mark David Jones, 71—of Alpena, MI passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, April 29, 2021.

Mark was born July 23, 1949 in Peru, Indiana to the late Robert and Jeanne (O’Harra) Jones. He married the love of his life, Sue Ellen Principe, September 27, 1969. Mark graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1971 and worked as a dedicated architect for nearly 50 years.

Mark cherished any time spent with family around the dining room table. He also thoroughly enjoyed reading, music, Brooks ketchup, canoeing/kayaking, and was a model train enthusiast. His love for the outdoors was evident to all when he designed and built his home on the beautiful rustic shores of Lake Huron. His love of music also led to the opening of his home for live house concerts. People came from far and wide to perform and attend.

Mark’s other interests included bike riding, wood working, playing the harmonica, and living life on the edge as an avid Notre Dame and New York Yankee fan. Fall Saturdays were sacred to Mark as he, and all of his family, would plan events around them in order to watch his Irish/Yankees take their respective fields.

But most importantly, Mark loved the Lord with all of his heart and held morning devotions with his loving wife, Sue, for more than 40 years. His unwavering faith in God was like a nearby Michigan lighthouse beaconing out for all to see. If known to be anything, Mark was a man of God. He knew where he was going and that provided Mark the confidence to treat each day as a gift from God. Mark would want each person who reads this to have that same confidence in Christ. So, rejoice, ye weary! And let it be known that Mark is not gone, he is very much alive in all of us, just as God is alive in him.

Mark is survived by his loving wife, Sue; five children, Barry (Katrina) Jones, Jamaica (Jake) Cornish, Meredith (Scott) Sommers, Meaghan (Jaime) Morris, Gabriel (Shannon) Jones; 15 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; three sisters, Rebecca (Howard) Rogers, Pamela (Jef) Davidson, Wendy (Takehito) Nakanishi; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home on Tuesday, 11 a.m. until family sharing time at 1 p.m.  For those unable to attend, live streaming will be available at www.bannanfuneralhome.com.
