Lawrence Alper Johnson

Lawrence Alper Johnson, 85, of Alpena passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital.

Lawrence was born April 26, 1938, in Alpena to the late Alper and Lois (Schultz) Johnson. He served in the United States Navy and retired from Lafarge in 1999. On March 30, 1969, he married Judy Zitlau.

Lawrence was a member of Alpena VFW Post 2496, Post Commander for 3 years 2000-2003, District Commander, and State Drug & Safety Officer. He helped spearhead the VA Clinic in Alpena and was a founding member of Alpena AM-Vets. Lawrence enjoyed baking, fishing, and boating.

Surviving are his wife, Judy; children, Larry Johnson, Jr., Lester Johnson, Sean Johnson; three siblings, Carl (Linda) Johnson, Wayne (Cindy) Johnson, and Norma Ray.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his sister, Theresa Johnson.

Cremation arrangements have been made by the Bannan Funeral Home.
