John Irvin Yake of Ossineke, Michigan, age 81, died Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Michigan Medicine Hospital in Ann Arbor.
Memorial visitation will be held at Bannan Funeral Home, Monday, June 5, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. until the memorial service at 2:00 p.m.
John Irvin Yake was born to Madeline (Poirier) Yake and John W. Yake on February 11, 1942, in Alpena, MI. John was drafted into the Army and served in the Vietnam War from 1965-1967. He specialized in Ordinances and Supply. John worked at General Motors as a millwright/welder during the peak of Flint’s auto industry days from 1963-1994. After his retirement, John spent much of his time visiting with family and friends. He joined weekly social groups, loved to play cards, attended family reunions and other events. He was present for virtually every holiday or major event for his family. He enjoyed shopping for deals at stores and garage sales and always kept a supply of gifts and gift cards to give to people for birthdays and holidays. John maintained an interest in historical and current events and liked to keep his mind occupied with reading, Sudoku, and crosswords. John will always be remembered for his generosity and giving spirit and as a dedicated son, brother, and uncle. He was loved dearly by all and will be greatly missed.
John is preceded in death by his father (John Yake) and mother (Madeline Yake). He is survived by his twin brother, James E. Yake and his nieces and nephew, James C. Yake, Ruthann (Yake) Gatica, and Melody (Yake) Tesler.
