Joanne Phyllis Centala, 87, of Alpena passed away Thursday, December 2, 2021, at Medilodge of Alpena.
Joanne Phyllis Sabourin was born in Alpena on April 27, 1934, to the late Napoleon and Louise (Boilore) Sabourin. Married for over 67 years, Joanne married the love of her life, Thomas Allen Centala, on May 29, 1954. Joanne had a deep and abiding faith and actively served her parish as a Eucharistic Minister at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She also enjoyed cooking, entertaining, oil painting, needlework, knitting and traveling.
Surviving are her husband, Tom; two sons, Robert (Nancy) Centala, Richard (Lisa) Centala; seven grandchildren, Nicole (Jerry) Apel, Lisa (Joe) Justin, Audrey (Ahmad) Owens, Andrew Corsi, Markie Centala, Avery (Maebe Sewell) Centala, Anna Centala; seven great grandchildren; brother-in-law, James Szczukowski; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Centala was preceded in death by eleven siblings; Gerald Rochon, Norma Kline, Curly Rochon, Priscilla Rochon, Delima Sabourin, Raymond Sabourin, Irene Precord, Edward Sabourin, Louis Sabourin, Nathalie Szczukowski, and Marilyn Yorks.
Memorial visitation will take place Monday at Bannan Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. with a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. and continue Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Church of All Saints Parish from 10 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. Michael Lingaur officiating. The Mass will be livestreamed at bannanfuneralhome.com.
