Joan Elnora Burt, 92, of Alpena went to her heavenly home on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Touch of Country AFC Home.
Joan Elnora Heine was born in Owosso on November 13, 1930, to the late Harold and Dorothy (Smith) Heine. She married George Burt on November 14, 1950, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hale and moved to Alpena. He preceded her in death on March 18, 2007. She worked for the Alpena County Jury Commission as a secretary. Joan was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, its Bible studies, taught Sunday School and served as superintendent for Sunday School. She was a member of Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, serving in various roles including president twice. Joan gave of her time by volunteering in the hospital gift shop, MyMichigan Medical Center’s Auxiliary for 27 years and Alpena Basket Guild.
Surviving are 2 children, Dale Burt, Nancy (Gary) Preece; daughter-in-law, Jeannie Burt; 6 grandchildren, Nicholas (Sarah) Burt, Natalie French, Nathan Burt, Erik (Tara) Preece, Melissa Brown, Stephanie (Mike) Cheney; 11 great grandchildren; brother, Gary (Sue) Heine; sister-in-law, Marie Heine; several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Burt was preceded in death by a son, Keith Burt; 4 brothers, Darwin Heine, Gleason Heine, Garwood Heine, and Dallas Heine.
Visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. and will continue on Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Rev. James Erickson officiating.
