Hilda Wootten Coombs

Hilda (Wootten) Coombs, 85, of Hillman, MI passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at MidMichigan Medical Center – Alpena with her family at her side.

Leila “Hilda” Hildred Jackson was born on July 7, 1935 in Jefferson Georgia to the late Oscar and Jackie (Frix) Jackson. Hilda married Dalton Wootten on February 21, 1953. He preceded her in death on July 4, 1995. Hilda was fortunate enough to find love again when she married Tom Coombs on August 16, 1998. He preceded her in death on October 21, 2001.

She worked at the Hillman Nursing Home and after her retirement she looked forward to lunches with her friends/coworkers that continued for many years.

Hilda was better known as “Ma” to all that knew her. There was nothing more important to her than her family. She enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and going to the casino.

She is survived by her children Gerald (Keitha) Wootten, Tonya (Bruce) Brown, Wendy Wootten all of Hillman, Larry (Cathy) Wootten of Oklahoma and Kathy (Chris) Oliver of Alpena. Grandchildren Bruce (Debbie) Brown, Clayton (Crystal) Brown, Joshua (Amanda) Wootten, Lyndsy Wootten, Ashley Wootten, Siarah Oliver and Brady Oliver.  Great grandchildren Ally, Ethan, Hannah, Sarah, Brantley, Harlan, Frances, Carolyn, Zaliissia, Millie, Zac, Marshal, Liam and 4 great-great grandchildren along with Tom’s children who she cared about very much and also by her sisters, brother, many nieces, and nephews and so many other family and friends that will dearly miss her.

Hilda was also preceded in death by Her sister Helen Dodd and brothers Fred and Ron Jackson.

Memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at New Beginnings Church, from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 12 noon with Pastor Larry Kirby officiating. Cremation arrangements are being handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
