Helen E. Schmanski, 98, of Alpena passed away Saturday, June 6, 2020 at Sally’s Care Home.
Helen Drevanz was born on November 10, 1921 in Alpena to the late Richard and Clara (Wegmeyer) Drevanz. On July 31, 1946 she married Eugene Schmanski in Detroit. He preceded her in death on June 9, 1998. Helen worked as a social worker for the Bureau of Social Aide and retired from the Alpena Public Schools in 1987. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and now All Saints Parish. Helen loved spending time with family and friends, music, playing golf, bowling, and going to the casinos.
Surviving are two daughters, Sandra (Ralph) Flythe, Linda (William) Maass; 2 grandsons, Scott (Kelly) Maass and Steven (Shelly) Maass; 4 great grandchildren, Alexis, Colbey, Olivia, Brayden; brother-in-law, Marvin and sister-in-law, Kathryn Schmanski; many beloved nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Schmanski was preceded in death by two sons, Steven, Michael; two sisters, Alice Diamond and Esther Besaw.
A private funeral service has taken place at the Bannan Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Lawler officiating.
Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to All Saints Parish.
