Gilbert Rubio, Jr.

Gilbert Rubio, Jr., 89, of Alpena passed away Friday, October 28, 2022, at MyMichigan Medical Center – Midland.

 

Gilbert was born in Cameron, Texas to the late Gilbert and Eloise (Cardena) Rubio on October 15, 1933.  On December 5, 1957, he married Wilma Nichols.  Gil served in the United States Army for 27 years.  He served in the Special Forces as a Green Beret for 17 of those years, receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross and three Purple Hearts.  Following his retirement in 1982, he worked and retired from the United States Post Office until retiring in 1995.  Following retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife.

 

Surviving are his wife, Wilma; 5 children, Constance Rubio, David Rubio, Kevin (Lisa) Rubio, Shannon (Chris) Wicklund, Shawn Rubio; 11 grandchildren, Matthew, Meghan, Hayden, Cody, Kevin, Katie, Eleazar, Cameron, Meleah, Courtney, Christian; 6 great grandchildren; brother, Charles Rubio and a sister, Marie Dominguez.

 

SGM. Rubio was preceded in death by a sister, Olga Rubio.

 

Cremation services have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
