Gertrude “Gertie” Shultz, 102, of Alpena passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at her home.

Gertrude was born in Alpena on November 9, 1919, to John and Laura (Vetter) Jackowiak. She married John W. Shultz (Soltysiak) on February 20, 1939. He preceded her in death on May 16, 1994. Gertie “Grandma Shultz” was a foster grandmother at Lincoln School for 23 years. She considered each and every student as “one of her kids”. Gertie had a big heart and lots of love to share. She brought a smile to everyone’s face.

Surviving are four of her children, Marilyn (Wayne) Krentz, Don (Ginger), John (Lorraine), Randy (Lynn) all of Alpena; seven grandchildren, Brian, Mike, Kevin, Steve, Amanda, Lisa, Kaylin; and seven great grandchildren.

Mrs. Shultz was preceded in death by her husband, John; infant daughter, Leona; and son, James.

Visitation will take place on Saturday at St. Mary Church of All Saints Parish from 9:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. Michael Lingaur officiating. Arrangements have been made by the Bannan Funeral Home.

Interment:  Holy Cross Cemetery
