Eugene Austin Grefe

Eugene Austin Grefe, 71, of Herron passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at MyMichigan Medical Center – Alpena.

Eugene was born in Alpena on August 14, 1952, to the late Eugene and Margaret (Smith) Grefe. He enlisted in the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War.  Upon returning he worked for the State of Michigan at Phelps Collins Air National Base for 39 years, retiring in 2010.  Gene married Janine Beaulieu on August 2, 1975. He enjoyed motorcycling, boating, skiing, and socializing with family and friends.

Surviving are his wife, Janine; 2 children, Mike Gagnon, Jamie Grefe; 4 grandchildren, Alexandra, Ada May, Primo, Rainer; 2 great grandchildren, Lincoln, Layne; and sister-in-law, Karen (Harry) Clark.

Memorial visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home on Saturday, September 30, 2023, from 11 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 1 p.m. with Rev. John Shipman officiating.
