Elizabeth “Betty” Joy Johnston, age 87, went to her Heavenly Home on Tuesday, December 24, 2019 surrounded by her loving family at Metro Health in Grand Rapids, MI.
Elizabeth Joy Dean was born in Alpena on March 26, 1932 to the late Warren and Lois (McQuaig) Dean. She married George L. Johnston on September 12, 1953, at First Baptist Church of Alpena, where they were members. George preceded her in death on August 2, 1973. She was a dedicated member of Burton Baptist Church for more than 20 years; a prayer warrior who served her Lord daily.
She is survived by her 4 children, Connie (Steven) Hostottle, Carolyn (Bruce) Tuttleman, Judy (Gordon) Miller, Jere (Leslie) Johnston, 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Iris (William) Martin; as well as a large extended family.
Betty is preceded in death by several siblings: Eva (Donald) Turner, Lillian (John) Paad, Jean (Floyd) Smalley, Winona (Gerald) Mischley, and Esther (Karl) Peterson.
Visitation will take place on Friday, January 3, 2020 at the Bannan Funeral Home in Alpena from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. with Rev. Kenneth Peterson officiating. A memorial service at Burton Baptist Church in Grand Rapids, MI will take place at a later date.
Interment: Evergreen Cemetery
