Elaine Nelson

Elaine Rita Nelson, 98, of Alpena passed away Monday, June 29, 2020 at home surrounded by family.

Elaine Rita DuPuis was born on February 4, 1922 in Alpena to the late Leo and Johanna (Niewola) DuPuis. On November 10, 1947, she married Byron Nelson at St. Bernard Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on July 21, 1992. Elaine was the last surviving member of the couple’s pinochle club. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Elaine was a devout Catholic who prayed the Rosary daily. She was an avid walker all her life and loved to golf in Florida and here. Her grandkids and great grandkids were the highlight of her life.

Surviving are her four children, Ken (Cheryl) Nelson, Nancy (Peter) Nelson-Simpson, Barry (Ruth) Nelson, Lori (Brent) Roll-Jones; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Bob Roll; sisters, Lucille Greer, Marie Bey, Leota Thompson; and brother, Donald DuPuis.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Bannan Funeral Home.

Interment:  Holy Cross Cemetery

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Michigan or All Saints School.
