Douglas Paul Gehl

Douglas Paul Gehl, 64, of Alpena passed away Saturday, November 12, 2022, at his home.  The youngest of five children, Doug was born in Flint to John (Bud) and Catherine Gehl.

When he was a young child, the family moved to Ossineke where he was often found on his trike with a wagon and an extraordinarily long piece of rope attached.  Doug transitioned to two-wheel bikes and wore out many as he traveled every inch of Ossineke.  When he moved to Alpena, he soon knew every inch of that city, too.  Doug later traded in his pedal bike for a moped and continued to enjoy cruising the streets and meeting new people.

Doug graduated from Pied Piper School and lived at Blue Horizon for a few years.  This was instrumental in Doug becoming the confident and independent man he was destined to be.

Attending church and his tremendous faith in God were very important to Doug.   Not even his terminal illness could keep Doug from his job of several years at The Friendship Room and Big Lots.  Doug enjoyed watching Elvis movies, 1970’s sitcoms and game shows, but most of all he loved his wife, Linda.  He met Linda at church, and it didn’t take long before they were set to be married on August 15, 2015.  Doug’s kind heart will be missed by all who knew him.

Doug is survived by his wife of seven years, Linda Lee Gehl, siblings, Mary Ann (Joe) Pernie, Duane (Margarita) Gehl, Doyle (Janet LaBonte) Gehl, Diane (Edward) Gouine; many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place at Huron Shores Fellowship on Thursday, November 17, 2022, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 noon with Rev. Dr. Warren Hoffman officiating. Arrangements are being handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.

Inurnment: St. Catherine Cemetery
