Clara Ellen Shaw died Sunday, August 13, 2023, at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena, MI, after a brief illness.
She was born November 16, 1930, to Thomas and Elva (Munsell) Hornung of Clio, MI. Clara attended Clio High School and was employed by General Motors Ternstedt Division in Flint, MI. She married her husband of 52 years, Bruce Allen Shaw in June of 1957, and together they had four children, Linda, Michael, Steven, and Toby. Bruce preceded her in death on September 11, 2009.
She was preceded in death by five siblings, Martha Huckins, Arthur Hornung, Raymond Hornung, Jewell Hornung, and Mark Hornung.
Clara was actively involved in several churches throughout her long life. She served as a deaconess, Sunday School teacher, and coordinator of the Cradle Roll. She was known for her ready laugh and wonderful sense of humor. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her four children, Linda (John) Jones, Michael (Roxane Ford) Shaw, Steven Shaw, Toby (Therese) Shaw; 12 grandchildren: Katharyn (Josh) Haas, Robert Jones, Amy (Mac) Engbers, Adam Jones (fiancee Laney Gross), Jorden (Ami) Susewitz, Allen (Diana) Shaw, Cassandra Shaw (fiance Jared Sucharski), Matt Muszynski (Cynthia), Angie (Brad) Moughon, Alex (Emily) Muszynski, Matthew Shaw, and Ashley Shaw as well as 15 great grandchildren, and several special nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 17, 2023, at Word of Life Baptist Church 1900 N. Bagley Street Alpena, MI from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 12 p.m. with Rev. Scott Joy officiating. Arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
