Camille M. Nerkowski, 73, of Alpena passed away Friday, April 17, 2020 of an apparent heart attack at MidMichigan Medical Center - Alpena.
Camille Marie Olewnik was born in Detroit on January 31, 1947. She loved life, her family and her many friends. She will be remembered for her indomitable spirit and ready laugh, for her courage and determination in the face of adversity and for the meaningful personal connection that she made all through her remarkable journey. On April 20, 1968 she married Victor Nerkowski. Camille was an active member of All Saints Parish serving in numerous positions, including Catholic Central Cafeteria, St. Anne’s playground and lunchroom, and as vice-president and president of St. Anne Parent Teacher Association. She worked for the parochial school office in Detroit for Archbishop Zwers, for J.C. Penney Company as a tele typist and sales associate, WHSB radio station, Weinkauf Plumbing and Heating, and later as Coordinator at Shelter, Inc. Camille served her community in many ways including as a Alpena Chamber of Commerce Ambassador, Alpena Lions Club, City of Alpena Recreation Committee, City of Alpena Councilwoman, City of Alpena Mayor from 1996-2000, and Alpena County Commissioner.
Surviving are her husband Victor; 2 children, Paula (Mike) Berenkowski, Allen Nerkowski; 6 grandchildren, Jonas, Benjamin, John, Luke, Joey, Lydia; 5 siblings, Christopher (Carole) Olewnik, Philip (Diana) Olewnik, Phyllis Reddington, Mark (Janie) Olewnik, Margie (Rocky) Bryl; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place Thursday, June 25, 2020 at Bannan Funeral Home from 2-8 p.m. with a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday, June 26, 2020 at St. Anne Church of All Saints Parish from 2 p.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 3 p.m. with Rev. Joseph Muszkiewicz officiating.
Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery
