Barbara Ann Hier

Barbara A. Hier, age 84, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, May 28, 2022. She was a loving mother, devoted wife, and she will be missed by many.

Barb was born in Alpena on December 9, 1937, to the late Edwin and Cecilia (Misiak) Kuchnicki. She graduated from Alpena Catholic Central High School in 1955 and went on to attend nursing school in Detroit. After receiving her degree, she spent a short time in San Francisco before returning to Alpena. She married Lawrence Hier on October 24, 1965. She continued her nursing career in Alpena by working at Alpena General Hospital, Alpena Public Schools, and the Alpena Health Department over the years. She was a member of St. Bernard’s parish and she volunteered and donated to numerous charities. Barb enjoyed golfing at Alpena Country Club, gardening, traveling, and decorating for the holidays. Her greatest joy in life were her grandchildren. They spent time on the beach when they were young, and she followed their lives closely as they grew older.

She is survived by her son, Christopher (Aimee) Hier; three grandchildren, Abby, CJ, and Maggie; a sister, Janet (Michael) Peirce; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence and a brother, Robert.

Visitation will take place Monday, June 6, 2022, at St. Bernard Church of All Saints Parish from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 12 p.m. with Rev. Tyler Bischoff officiating. Arrangements are being made by the Bannan Funeral Home. 

Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery
