Barbara Lee Dean, 88, of Alpena passed away suddenly on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw.
Barbara was born August 19, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan to the late John and Crete Bruder. She graduated from Cooley High School in 1950. Barbara met the love of her life, Wellington Dean, while her family was vacationing at Long Lake in Alpena. They were married on June 26, 1954 and resided in Alpena.
Surviving are two daughters: Lisa (David) Patterson of Marion, Iowa, and Andrea (Jerry) Patterson of Topinabee, Michigan. The couple also has five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Barbara was preceded in death by her brother John Jr., sister Carolyn, and one great grandson, “Teddy”.
Barbara’s passion was her family, and her joy was being together with them to celebrate family vacations, special events, and holidays. Barbara loved to travel, and she and Wellington became snowbirds for many years spending their winters in New Mexico. She loved to dance and sing and was passionate about spending time with her friends at the Alpena Plaza Pool.
Barbara was a faithful and active member of the First United Methodist Church serving many years as Sunday School teacher, Girl Scout Leader, Prayer Chain Coordinator, Hearts to Home ministry, and volunteering at numerous fundraisers to support the church and its ministries.
A Celebration of Life service will be held for Barbara at a future date. Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Alpena Plaza Pool.
Cremation arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
