Agnes Dubie

Agnes Julia Dubie, 93, of Alpena, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on July 20, 2021.  Agnes Julia Zbytowski was born on September 21, 1927, to John and Cecelia (Bajdacz) Zbytowski on the family farm. She completed school through the eighth grade and later obtained her GED and attended ACC.

Agnes was married to Clare Dubie on May 5,1947, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Herron, Michigan.  They made their home on the Zbytowski family farm in Wilson Township. He preceded her in death on June 4, 1974.  She shared many stories of life on the farm and the hardships they endured during the depression and the years that followed.  As the youngest of a sibship of 12, she outlived all her siblings and suffered many losses but none as great as the passing of her youngest son, Shawn, at the age of 22 as a result of injuries suffered while competing in a rodeo in Greely, Colorado.

Agnes worked as a secretary, bookkeeper, nursing assistant, lay minister for St. Rose, and various other jobs throughout her life. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, puzzles, and watching the activities around the farm. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Herron, and participated in church activities.

Agnes is survived by her children Jerry (Marsette), Mark (Diane), Alan (Judy), Glenn (Debra), Anne (Thomas) Rabeau, Richard, Carla (Joseph) James, Bruce (Charleen), Chris (Leigh), Matt (Jennifer), Grace (Howard) Phillips, and Joyce (Andrew) Carpenter; daughter-in-law Dawn Thompson; 43 grandchildren; 61 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild. She is survived by sisters-in-law Lila Dubie Burnash and Arlene (Ardon) Dubie. Numerous nieces and nephews.

Agnes was preceded in death by infant granddaughter Heather Ann Dubie, grandson Andrew John Dubie, her parents John and Cecelia, and her siblings and their spouses Louis, Francis (Emma), Joseph (Clara), Clara (Stephen) Kendziorski, Gertrude (Leo) Filarski, Anthony (Elaine), Bernard (Alice), Elizabeth (Raymond) Januchowski, Raymond (Rhea), Edmond (Marcella), Clement (Phyllis). Her in-laws Frank Burnash, Marjorie (Norbert) Donakowski, Ardon Dubie, Arlie (June) Dubie, and Saundra Dubie.

Visitation will be Friday, July 30, 2021, from 2-8 p.m. at Bannan Funeral Home, rosary at 5 p.m. and prayer service at 7 p.m.  On Saturday, July 31, 2021, visitation will be at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Herron from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m.  Fr. James Fitzpatrick will be officiating.  Burial will follow the funeral at St. Rose Church Cemetery.  A luncheon will be served following the burial. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Bannan Funeral Home, Alpena, Michigan.

Per her request, in lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church or McLaren Hospice.  The family of Agnes wishes to thank the staff of Compassionate Care and McLaren Hospice for the support and care they provided.
