Steven Lay Wirgau, 38, formerly of Alpena passed away Saturday, December 23, 2017 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.

He was born on December 24, 1978 in Rome, Georgia to Richard and Nancy Wirgau. He spent his childhood growing up in Alpena, MI and graduated from Alpena High School.  As an adult, Steve was an extremely hard worker and spent many years traveling around the United States, completing multiple construction projects. Along the way he met many new people who quickly became some of his closest friends. He had the ability to spark excitement and create laughter in any room he entered.  During family gatherings, he always had the greatest stories to tell about his many adventures and the people he had met. He will be missed greatly by his family and the many friends he made during his lifetime.

Steve is survived by his three children, who were the loves of his life, his daughters Destiney and Alexas Wirgau, and his son Kaleb Holubik; his parents Richard Wirgau of Rogers City, Michigan and Nancy Wirgau of Rome, Georgia; his four brothers, Randy Wirgau of Rome, Georgia, Jeff (Ashley)Wirgau, Jason (Christina) Wirgau, and Shawn Robarge, all of Alpena; his two sisters, Amanda Wirgau and Rebecca Simpson of Rome, Georgia; 12 nephews, 8 nieces, 2 great nephews, and one great niece.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Harvey and Marie Ferguson, and Willis and Lucille Wirgau.

Final arrangements for Steve are being handled by Bannan Funeral Home. A ceremony to celebrate Steve’s life will be held by his family at a future date.
