Robert W. Thompson, 87, of Alpena passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018 at MidMichigan Medical Center.
Born on April 5, 1931 in Alpena to the late Fred and Josephine (Kotwicki) Thompson. As a young boy, Bob was always looking for an opportunity to advance himself and later enlisted in the United States Air Force retiring as a Major in 1971. Following his retirement Bob worked at Alpena General Hospital, as a real estate agent and later sold cars. He was a vigorous reader and an extremely political activist for the Republican party. He was a true patriot and was a member of the VFW Alpena Post 2496, longtime volunteer for hospice and a friend of Bill W.
Surviving are his children, Maria (fiancé John Shelton) Parent, Robert (Debra) Thompson, II; 3 grandchildren, Nicholas (Kourtni) Charbonneau, Stefani (Rick) Daley, Evan (fiancée Megan Dumas) Charbonneau; 5 great grandchildren, Ricky, Emma, Eve, Esther and Malakai.
Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by an infant son, William; brother William Thompson and a sister, Judy Thompson.
Visitation will take place Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the Bannan Funeral Home from 12 noon until time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. with Rev. Joseph Muszkiewicz officiating. Full military honors will be accorded him by the VFW Alpena Post 2496.
Inurnment: Holy Cross Cemetery
