Larry Thomas Gawne

August 16, 1942 ~ May 31, 2018 (age 75)

Larry Thomas Gawne, age 75, of Hillman passed away on May 31, 2018, in Hillman, Michigan.

Larry was born in Omer, Michigan to the late George and Lois (McLean) Gawne on August 16, 1942. He graduated from Whittemore-Prescott High School in 1960. Larry married Sharon Jones on June 8, 1963, in Saginaw, Michigan. He worked in management for 25 years for Severance Tools in Saginaw. Larry moved to Hillman in 1985 where he owned/operated the Hillman Motel. In addition to working at Erb Lumber, Wicks Lumber, and Pro Build, he retired in 2006 at the age of 62.

Larry was involved in and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was committed to his faith by singing in the church choir, leading worship services, and serving as a member of a mission team involved in constructing a church in the Dominican Republic. Amongst many other things, Larry was an avid lover of collecting John Deere tractors and antique cars. At his best, with his hands, he also crafted wood.

Larry is survived by his wife, Sharon Gawne of 54 years; son, Brian and wife Jenny Gawne; daughter, Kathy and husband Matt Noffze; grandchildren, Taylor, Chelsea (Stevens) Noffze, Emilee Noffze, Ryan and Lucas Gawne; special grandchildren, Alisha, Austin, and Nevaeh Poirer. He is also survived by his siblings, Dick and Jean Gawne, Ron and Sonna Gawne, Jim and Lealla Gawne, Joe and Carol Brzezinski; sisters-in-law, Nancy Verlac, Mary Brown; and many, many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

Larry is preceded in death by his step mother, Lee Gawne; grandson, Kyle Gawne; granddaughter, Madison Noffze; and nephew, Ronnie Gawne.

Visitation will take place at Bannan Funeral Home – Hillman on Sunday from 2-8 p.m. and continue Monday at TriPoint Church of God from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Michael Potter officiating.

Interment: Montmorency Township Cemetery
