John James Smigelski, 87, of Alpena passed away Sunday, November 11, 2018 at Medilodge of Greenview.
John was born in Alpena on August 5, 1931 to the late John and Josephine (Precord) Smigelski and married Darlene Sylvester on April 14, 1956. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War and retired from the Fletcher Paper Company. John was active with HEAL. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. John’s passions were working in his yard and spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Darlene; children, David of Alpena, Richard of California, Lynda (Gary) Kendziorski of Alpena; 6 grandchildren, Dr. Jessica Kendziorski, Dr. Sarah (fiancé Dr. Alex Tarkington) Kendziorski, Jason Kendziorski, Luke Kendziorski, Parker Smigelski and Garrick Smigelski.
Mr. Smigelski was preceded in death by 9 siblings.
Visitation will take place at Bannan Funeral Home on Friday from 2-8 p.m. with military honors accorded him by VFW Alpena Post 2496 at 5 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 6 p.m. Visitation will continue at St. Bernard Church of All Saints Parish on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. Joseph Muszkiewicz officiating.
