Jerome "Jerry" French Meek

July 5, 1934 ~ December 30, 2018 (age 84)

Jerome “Jerry” French Meek, 84, of Alpena passed away Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Turning Brook.

Jerry was born on July 5, 1934 in Mishawaka, IN to the late Raymond and Dorothy (French) Meek.  On March 3, 1962, he married Barbara Peters.  Jerry served in the United States Army until his honorable discharge.  He was an engineer for the Ford Motor Company until his retirement and moved to Alpena in 1995.  In retirement, Jerry was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, Boy Scouts of America, Habitat for Humanity and was a coordinator and presenter for Lifelong Learners at A.C.C.  He was the co-developer of the Marine Sanctuary Community Boat Building Program and Family Boat Building Program, served on the Sanctuary Advisory Council of the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary.  He also served as secretary and newsletter editor for the Thunder Bay Watershed Council and enjoyed building and racing small sailboats.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara; 2 daughters, Caroline and John Demarrais, Kathleen and Steven Frisch; 5 grandchildren, Jacob, Derek, Louis, Joshua, Katie; and 1 great granddaughter, Carmella.

Memorial visitation will take place at the First Presbyterian Church in Alpena on Friday, January 4, 2019 from 11 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 12 noon with Rev. William Rayment officiating.  Cremation arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or Friends of the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary.
