Ivan John McLaren, 78, of Midland passed away Friday, November 22, 2019 at Medilodge of Mt. Pleasant.
Ivan was born on April 7, 1941, in Alpena County to the late Norman and Jean (Sharp) McLaren. On September 6, 2003, he married Mary Story. Ivan worked as a teacher for 34 years at Alpena Community College, retiring in 2003. He enjoyed hunting, golf, coaching sports, and was an avid card player.
Surviving are his wife, Mary; four children, Debra (Kevin) Sylvester, Curt (Trish) McLaren, Derek (Ginger) McLaren, Brent McLaren; nephew, Calvin Kortman; three step children, Jason Skiba, Nicholas (LeaAnn) Skiba, Brian Skiba; 8 grandchildren, including four that were particularly close to him, Mallory, Hunter, Nick, Sarah McLaren; 3 step grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sister, Linda (David) Wirgau; brothers, Michael (Teri) McLaren, Mitch McLaren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. McLaren was preceded in death by his two brothers, Gerald McLaren and Kim McLaren.
Memorial visitation will take place Friday, May 22, 2020 from 10 a.m. until the memorial service at noon at Long Rapids Congregational Church. Arrangements by the Bannan Funeral Home.
