Irene (Liske) Kihn

August 28, 1928 ~ June 4, 2018 (age 89)

Irene Liske Kihn, 89, of Wolf Creek, passed away Monday, June 4, 2018.

Irene was born in Flint, Michigan, on August 28, 1928, to the late John and Martha (Preuss) Liske.  The family returned to Wolf Creek at the onset of the Great Depression and started the farm in Wolf Creek where Irene lived since their passing.  Irene married Elmer Leon Kihn on June 1, 1947, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Herron, Michigan.  They had two daughters, Sylvia and Judy.

Irene enjoyed a long and productive nursing career beginning at Alpena General Hospital, culminating at Lincoln Haven Nursing Home.  Caring for her patients was of utmost importance to her.  They would often ask for her if they were readmitted.

Besides her nursing career, Irene was a master gardener who enjoyed sharing her vegetables and flowers with family, neighbors, friends and passers-by.  Her gardens were a glory and a go-to destination all summer long.

Irene is survived by her daughters Judy Standen, Sylvia (Allen) McCullough; 3 grandchildren, Rose Upton, Renee (Todd) Johnson, Tim (Sherry) Standen; 11 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.  She was very proud of her family and loved us very much.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all of Irene’s doctors, especially her much loved friend, Dr. James Bullen, her nurses and other caregivers, especially her wound care practitioners, Rachel Savage and Joanne Leesburg, all of whom helped to enhance her quality of life and enabled her to enjoy her long life to the fullest.  Special thanks go to Joe and Doug, her landscapers who kept her farm and gardens in showcase condition.  She loved her talks with Joe Llewellyn, Pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hubbard Lake, who tended to her spiritual needs who attested to her deep and abiding faith.  Also, all of those that are too many to name, but have helped Irene.

Irene was an animal lover whose pets were lovingly cared for by the Switzer Veterinary Clinic.  Irene leaves behind her beloved cat, Whimpie, who is very shy and in need of being rehomed to a quiet, patient and loving family.

Friends and family will gather for visitation at King Settlement Cemetery, on Friday, June 8, 2018 for a graveside service at 3 p.m.  with Rev. Joe Llewellyn officiating.  Arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home. On-line condolences may be left at www.bannanfuneralhome.com.
