Howard “Swampy” Lee Marsh, 81, of Alpena passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2019, at his home.
Howard was born in Dubuque, Iowa on April 20, 1938 to the late Mill and Sylvia (Gross) Marsh. He served in the United States Navy, retiring after 20 years. Howard also worked for the Hillman post office as a rural carrier for 10 years. On August 9, 1958 he married Donna Esch.
Howard was an active member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Ossineke Lions Club, and the Fleet Reserve. He enjoyed fishing, telling jokes, and watching the grandchildren play.
Surviving are his wife, Donna; two children, Chris (Cindy) Marsh, Tammy (David) Veasy; 9 grandchildren, Amy (Richard) Pingel, Daniel (Meghan) Marsh, Sean (Kristen) Marsh, Chelsea Marsh, Shanell Losinski, Ayla Morphew, Shay (Spiro) Kandis, Ben Veasy, David (fiancé Amanda Sarazin) Veasy; 15 great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Delores Holter. He was preceded in death by his son, Richard Marsh and brother, Charles Holter.
Memorial visitation will take place Monday, August 19, 2019, at First Congregational United Church of Christ from 1 p.m. until the memorial service at 4 p.m. with Reverend Dr. Paul Lance officiating. Military honors will be accorded him by Alpena V.F.W. Post 2496. Cremation arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
