Ellen Josephine Gates (Minton) Trapp

July 9, 1920 ~ July 14, 2018 (age 98)

Ellen Josephine Gates Trapp, 98, of Alpena went into the arms of her Savior Saturday, July 14, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family.

Ellen Jospehine Minton was born in Bolton on July 9, 1920 to the late Martin and Mary (Timmerick) Minton.  Ellen was the first of her siblings to graduate from high school in Alpena in 1939 and left for Detroit, furthered her education becoming a cosmetologist and later working as a telephone switchboard supervisor.  She married David E. Gates in October 1, 1942 in Detroit. She was a loving mother of one little boy David Eugene Gates, Jr. that was born July 16, 1943, and died of cancer March 6, 1947. They moved to Dover, Arkansas for the next 40 years.  She worked in a doctor’s clinic for many years and enjoyed doing ceramics, giving many of the items to her nieces and nephews, and was an excellent seamstress.   When her parents became elderly, she cared for them until they passed away.  She returned to Alpena in 1995. David preceded her in death on March 18, 1980.  She married Donald Trapp on October 18, 1988.  He preceded her in death on February 21, 1994.  She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and its Altar Society. She was an angel to all.

Surviving are 2 sisters, Annabelle Dziuba, Margaret Arpin; several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Trapp was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Martin, Jr., Leonard, John; 3 sisters, Mary Ellery, Myrtle Donakowski and Blanche Parkis.

Mrs. Trapp is at the Bannan Funeral Home where visitation will take place on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. with a parish prayer service at 7 p.m.  Visitation will continue Thursday at St. Bernard Church of All Saints Parish from 10 a.m. until time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. James Fitzpatrick officiating.
