Dale Stanley Himes

November 24, 1937 ~ May 7, 2018 (age 80)

Dale Stanley Himes, 80, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2018, at his Long Rapids home surrounded by family. Dale lived a full life and lived it well. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather, friend and neighbor. Dale quietly embodied a unique combination of strength, warmth, selflessness and service.

Dale was born November 24, 1937, in Alpena to Stanley and Kathleen (McRae) Himes. He was a loving husband of over 60 years. Dale married Donna (Jackowiak) on September 7, 1957 at St. Mary Catholic Church. He worked and retired from National Gypsum/Lafarge in 2000 after 43 years as an electrician. Dale was a faithful member of Grace Episcopal Church, the Long Rapids Fire Department and served for many years on the Long Rapids Township Board as a Trustee. He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan, and he enjoyed spending time at “the lake” (Long Lake), but most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.

Dale will be remembered and celebrated by his wife, Donna; 3 children, Linda (Frank) Kruczynski of Rogers City, Brenda (Jeff) Orban of Long Rapids, Billy (Tina) Himes of Posen; as well as three of Donna’s siblings, which following the death of Donna’s parents, Dale and Donna took in and raised as their own, Walter (Sue) Jackowiak, Joe (Marla) Jackowiak, Mary (Mark) Cole; 15 grandchildren, Stanley (Diana) Kruczynski, Patrick (Ambre) Kruczynski, Rickie (Jessica) Kruczynski, Becky (Matt) Brege, Sarah (Ryan) Frost, Heather (Zachary) Birmingham, Hailee Himes, Hope Himes, Nick Cole, Nathan (Shelley) Cole, Kelli Jackowiak, Lisa Jackowiak, Craig Jackowiak, Bob (Laurie) Jackowiak, Krystal Jackowiak; 16 great grandchildren, Monty, Kaitlynn, Elijah, Emma Jo, Elliott, Jacob, Isaac, Lukas, Jillian, Hunter, Bretta, Jackson, Jeremiah, Kaelynn, Saheienne, Aiden, Katalina; 5 siblings, Shirley (Charlie) Vogt, Barbara Cordes, Joan (Bruce) Edmonds, Duane (Audrey) Himes, and Kathy (Wayne) Kruczynski.

Dale was preceded in death by two siblings, Billie Lee and Janet Sue.

He taught us so much; to respect people’s feelings, to help someone in need and expect nothing in return, to love your family with all your heart. Most of all he has shown us how to really live. He will be so very missed.

Please join the family to celebrate the life of Dale Stanley Himes. Visitation will take place on Thursday at Bannan Funeral Home from 2-8 p.m. and continue Friday at Grace Episcopal Church from 1 p.m. until the funeral service at 2 p.m. with Rev. John Laycock officiating.
