Zilpha Marie Hibner
, Helotes, Texas, died February 7, 2010. She was married to Dale V. Hibner, formerly of Alpena (AHS 1966, ACC 1969). Born Zilpha Marie Burns in Norwood, Missouri, she lived her earliest years in Mountain Grove, Missouri.

Zilpha was a strong advocate for women, veterans, and people with severe disabilities. She graduated from Sts. Peter and Paul High School in 1966. In 1967 she entered the U.S. Army, Women’s Army Corps, with service at the Pentagon. Zilpha met and married Dale in 1972 while she was working at the VAMC and he was attending the University of Missouri at Columbia, MO. She received a Masters of Rehabilitation Counseling from Wright State University, and remained an active Certified Rehabilitation Counselor throughout her life.

Zilpha was a member of the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Antonio. She was a founding member of the Women’s Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery, a life member of Paralyzed Veterans Association and Disabled Veterans Association, a member of National Multiple Sclerosis Association, Texas Rehabilitation Association, and National Rehabilitation Association.

Surviving are her husband, Dale of Helotes, Texas; son, Christopher D. Hibner of Louisville, Kentucky; daughter, Jessica M. Hibner of Baltimore, Maryland; and mother-in-law, Hazel Hibner of Alpena.

Interment will be at the National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
