Born in Alpena County on July 24, 1924 to the late Herbert and Bertha (Woodward) Eagle and married Charlotte Himes on June 15, 1947. She preceded him in death on July 25, 2006. Mr. Eagle served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Minneapolis throughout the Pacific Theatres during W.W.II from April 1943 to December 1945. The Minnie played a vital role in nearly every battle of the Pacific campaign except Iwo Jima. The Minnie was in the battles of the Gilbert and Marshall Islands, Bougainvillea, The Coral Sea, Midway, Guadalcanal and Tulagi. Valiant action by the crew saved the ship from being sunk at Tassafaronga. She was back in action at Wake Island, Truk, Saipan, Guam, the Eastern Soloman Islands, New Guinea, Western Caroline Islands, Luzon and Okinawa. He earned 11 Bronze Stars.
He was a member of the Free Methodist Church and a life member of VFW 2496. Known to many as "Eddie", he was a man who always had a smile for everyone. He loved to joke around with people and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a selfless man who always put others first. He loved his belated wife Charlotte more than life itself. His life was dedicated to serving her and loving her to the best of his ability. He is a man that will be dearly missed, but never forgotten by his family.
