James Frank Chandler
, 87, of 410 Princeton Ave., Alpena, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2010, at Alpena Regional Medical Center.

Born on May 8, 1922 in Toronto to Maurice and Anjinita (Van denHoek) Chandler and married Mary Bentley on July 7, 1945. He served in the United States Army and the Canadian Paratroops during World War II. Jim taught high school for Oscoda, Alcona and Alpena Public Schools before his retirement from Alpena Community College in 1986. Mr. Chandler was a Leader of his Eagle Scout troop.

Surviving are his wife, Mary; 4 children, Mary Kay (Thomas) Anderson of Big Rapids, James (Maria) Chandler of Grand Rapids, Claudia (Rick) Arlt of Mount Pleasant, Nora (Randy) Bouchard of Alpena; 7 grandchildren, T.J. Anderson, Benjamin (Amy) Anderson, Stephanie (Jeremy) Hovey, Robert Arlt, Jim (Jessica) Bouchard, Mary Bouchard, Andy Bouchard; 2 great-grandchildren, Grace Bouchard, J.J. Hovey; and sister, Patricia Holt of Nevada.

Mr. Chandler was preceded in death by his brother, Maurice Chandler.

Family and friends may gather from 2 p.m. until time of a memorial service on Sunday, February 21, 2010, at 3 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Steven Hammond officiating. Cremation arrangements where handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
