Shirley Leigh (Shaw) Seres

October 7, 1932 ~ February 11, 2018 (age 85)

Shirley Leigh Seres, 85, of Marathon, Florida, formerly of Alpena, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Autumnwood of Deckerville.

Shirley Shaw was born October 7, 1932 in Kingston, Michigan to the late Robert and Lucille (Hillis) Shaw. She graduated in 1950 from Farmington High School where she was a standout on the track team and drum majorette of the marching band. On February 22, 1952, she married Meldrum Culver. He preceded her in death on January 6, 1957. On April 23, 1958 she married William Seres. He preceded her in death on September 13, 1996. On July 21, 2001, she married Irving (Mickey) Belin who survives her.

Shirley was a member of Spratt United Methodist Church and Marathon Community United Methodist Church. She was a life member of Order of the Eastern Star-Sandusky Chapter 273 and was also a past member of the Alpena VFW 2496 Auxiliary. Shirley was a wonderful homemaker and cook. She also enjoyed living her retirement years in Marathon, Florida where she enjoyed fishing, socializing with her many friends and putting many photo books together for her family. The most important thing to her was her family, her children and grandchildren who she enjoyed seeing when she returned to Beaver Lake every summer.

Surviving are her eight children, Janice (Jim) Gierman, Margaret Burkart, Michael (Sharon) Seres, Lonny (Linda) Seres, Les (Janice) Seres, Debbie (Bill) Naylor, William (Barbara) Seres Jr., John (Cindy) Seres; daughter-in-law, Geraldine Seres; 21 grandchildren, Julie, Jason, Joe, Ann, Amanda, Ken, Dan, Bob, Greg, Becky, Melissa, David, Shane, Michelle, Serenity, Chris, Laura, Jessica, Jack, Crystal, Tony; 28 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and a brother, James (Janine) Shaw.

Mrs. Seres was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Seres; daughter-in-law, Betty Seres; brothers, Lawrence and Glen Shaw; sisters, Charlotte Leesburg and Jean Dupart.

A memorial service will take place on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. at the Marathon Community United Methodist Church, Marathon, FL with Rev. Larry White officiating. Memorial visitation will also take place on Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 10 a.m. until the memorial service at 12 p.m. at Spratt United Methodist Church with Rev. Lisa Kelley officiating. Cremation arrangements have been handled by Bannan Funeral Home.
