Richard Carlyle Reed, 79 of Alpena, formerly of Lennon went home to be with the Lord February 7, 2018 peacefully at home surrounded by his family and special friend, Greg.

Richard was born January 27, 1939 in Flint to the late Stanley and Etta (Picardy) Reed.  On November 12, 1960 he married Helen Ann Bandurski at All Saints Church in Flint. Richard (Dick) was at first a great family man. He was a husband, father, grandfather and a man of many talents.

Music was his passion as he began at age 12 and enjoyed playing multiple instruments. He played in several bands throughout his life and loved teaching music. He most recently taught at Resurrection Lutheran School of Music in Alpena.  Dick was so loved by all his students and respected by his fellow instructors.  Most recently he was a lead guitarist in the band “Music For You”. ‘Dick the Lead Reed’ will be dearly missed. The band donated their time and talents to many organizations, including nursing homes, senior centers, Friends Together, Relay for Life, Association of Life Long Learners and several other areas around Alpena.  He was part of the Music Ministry at St. Mary Catholic Church in Durand, MI and at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and Resurrection Lutheran Church in Alpena where he served the Lord in a special way. Dick was a devout Catholic and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus (3rd Degree) in Durand.

Dick was also a photographer, worked as a truck driver delivering furniture in Flint along with other work adventures and retired from barbering in Flint and Corunna.  His love for Jesus Christ, family, friends, music, band members and students were beyond description.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Helen; two children, Brian (Angie) Reed of Alpena, and Susan (Jack) Lewis of Midland; six grandchildren, Jessica, Adam, Ryan, Aaron, Christopher, Audrey; brother-in-law, Vincent (Marilyn) Bandurski; several nieces, nephews, close friends and everyone who prayed for his peace and comfort.

Richard was preceded in death by his sister Lorraine Thompson; mother-in-law, Helen Wanda Bysko; father-in-law Chester Bandurski; and sister-in-law, Stasia Procunier.
