Myron "Mike" J. Palevich

April 9, 1929 ~ February 25, 2018 (age 88)

Myron J. “Mike” Palevich, 88, of Alpena passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at his home.

A lifelong resident of Alpena, Mike was born on April 9, 1929 to the late Anthony and Mary (Gutkowski) Palevich. He married Rose Marie Couture on July 15, 1950 at St. Bernard Catholic Church. He graduated from Alpena High School in 1947. Mike served his country from January 1952 until January 1954 in the United States Marine Corps. during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant and was the first chaplain of the Marine Corps. League Detachment 1327 of Alpena. Mike was very very proud to be a marine.

He worked for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for 30 years, retiring in 1984. He then worked for First of American Bank until his full retirement in September 1991. Mike enjoyed working with wood in his basement workshop, playing cards, euchre club and camping with family and friends. He loved deer hunting, spending time with his son at camp “The Bears Den”, but being with his loving family was most important.

Surviving are 5 children: Sue (Bill) McKay of Johannesburg, Cathy (Denny) Pierce of Plainwell, Carol (Doug) Hanfland of Florida, Julie Hoppe of Alpena, Michael (Michele) Palevich of Alpena; 13 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; longtime family friends, Vanessa Mills, Shelly Flewelling and Greg Flewelling.

Mr. Palevich was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Marie in August 2002; and grandson, Kyle Bright in August 1985.

Visitation will take place on Saturday at the Bannan Funeral Home from 2 until the time of funeral service at 7 p.m. with Rev. Joseph Muszkiewicz officiating, followed by full military honors accorded him by VFW Alpena Post 2496.
