Mary Ann Townsend, 88, of Alpena went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 25, 2017, at Tendercare Greenview.

Mary Ann Lamp was born on May 6, 1929, in Alpena to the late Bernard and Miriam (Thorne) Lamp. She married Russell Townsend, Jr., her high school sweetheart, on June 19, 1950 at St. Bernard Catholic Church. Mary Ann’s faith and her family were most important to her. “Grandma T” was known for her loving servant’s heart, listening ear and delicious homemade bread to her many family members and friends.

Surviving are her husband, Russell; her nine children—Tom (Jena) Townsend, Colleen (Don) Marceau, Christine (Hans) Stevens, Mary Beth (Kevin) Englund, Jim (Amy) Townsend, Jane (Randy) Styma, Therese (Toby) Shaw, Amy (Alan) Guest and Paul (Bill Grimmer) Townsend; her 29 grandchildren—Ryan (Jennina) Townsend, Sara (Aaron Flick) Townsend, Anne (Tyler Skiba) Marceau, Eric (Amanda Adams) Stevens, Tim Stevens, Ben Stevens, Elissa (Colin Sweet) Englund, Kristin (Dave) VanKampen, Jon Englund, Stacey (Doug) Mulder, Emily (Tony) Pratt, Mike (Liz Wood) Townsend, Julie (Connor) Gagnon, Erin (Lee Dyer) Campbell, Dan (Jess Hendrickson) Campbell, Maria (Brandon Atkinson) Styma, Tania Styma, Jeremy (Wendy Fogland) Styma, Matt (Cynthia) Muszynski, Angie (Brad) Moughon, Alex Muszynski, Matthew Shaw, Ashley Shaw, Jim Guest, Peter (Megan Martin) Guest, Joe Guest, Matthew Guest, Acacia Chiddix and Piper Chiddix; and her 19 great-grandchildren—Micah, Zoey, Abigail, Elijah, Austin, Grace, Logan, Sophia, Lola, Julian, Addison, Henry, Owen, Kolbie, Cash, Rocky, Gray, Locke and Creed.

Mrs. Townsend is also survived by her siblings, Bernard (Mary Jane) Lamp, Jr., Shirley McDonald; sister-in-law, Jane Lamp; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Lamp; brother-in-law, Robert McDonald; and sister-in-law, Therese Townsend Fitzpatrick.

Visitation will be held at the Bannan Funeral Home on Monday from 2-8 p.m. The rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. and a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Tuesday at St. Bernard Church of All Saints Parish from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. Joseph Muszkiewicz officiating.
