Welcome to the memorial page for

Kathryn "Kay" Ellen (Barrett) Ogger

March 19, 1941 ~ November 27, 2017 (age 76)

Kathryn “Kay” Ellen (Barrett) Ogger, passed away Monday, November 27, 2017, with her loving family at her side.

Kay was the first born of four daughters to the late W. Alfred & Jean (Gordon) Barrett on March 19, 1941. In her childhood, Kay enjoyed many years of dance lessons and recitals along with her sisters.  She was an avid reader and spent many an hour doing jigsaw puzzles and playing cards with family and friends.  Kay graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1959 with the highest honors, was a member of the debate team and drum majorette in the school band.  She received her BS in Chemistry from Aquinas College and enjoyed a long career as an analytical chemist for the US Food and Drug Administration, later moving to a consulting position where she was able to travel to many parts of the world.  Her Irish heritage found her collecting a treasure trove of family memorabilia, from photos to writings to family trees.  The sandy shores of El Cajon Beach, where she vacationed before settling down after retirement, saw her spending hours basking in the sun and kayaking.

She served as an elected member of the Royal Oak School Board for many terms; was currently treasurer of League of Women Voters of Alpena County; an officer of the El Cajon Beach Association; and a member of the All Saints Catholic Parish.

Kay is survived by her daughter Sara (Jean-Gabriel Neukomm) Ogger and their sons Arnaud and Théodore of New York City; her son David of Lapeer and his daughter Jennifer (Mitchell) Schubbe of Mena, AR; her three sisters, Patricia (Dennis) Schultz, Mary Ann Barrett, OP, of Grand Rapids and Susan (Robert) Anderson, of Newport Beach, CA; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Kay was predeceased by her former husband, John D. Ogger.
