Grief Information & Elder Care
September 21, 1921 - June 7, 2012
Edward William Timm, 90, of Alpena, passed away at his home surrounded by family on Thursday June 7, 2012. He was the son of Ferdinand and Marie
(Werner) Timm and was born on September 21, 1921 in Alpena. Edward was the youngest of sixteen children that included nine brothers, Emil, David, John, August, Ausef, Fred, Eric, Ferdinand, Ernest; and six sisters, Hilda Schwenke, Martha Weidman, Bertha Weidman, Theresa Miller, Meta DeRosa, Frieda Borke, all which have preceded him in death.
Edward’s parents along with many of the children immigrated to America in June of 1914 and settled in the Alpena area. He married Helen (Timm), his wife of sixty-six years on June 1, 1946. In his early adulthood, he operated a dairy farm, worked as the Ossineke Township constable and was a carpenter that helped build Alpena High School and Mich-E-Ke-Wis Indoor Skating rink. However, his main passion in life was farming. He especially enjoyed raising beef cattle, working fields and harvesting crops alongside his son, Chuck. During his later years in life, Edward suffered a stroke in 2003, but his desire for life and determination allowed him to regain his mobility and return to driving tractors. He also especially enjoyed being an usher and greeter for many years in church.
Even though his roots were planted in Alpena, Edward got to travel all over the world, including six trips to Europe, a two-week overland tour of the Middle East from Amman, Jordan to Istanbul, Turkey. He also travelled to Mexico, Canada and many parts of the United States. His vast memory of his childhood and adult years allowed him to be a great story teller which will be greatly missed by numerous friends and family.
He is survived by his wife Helen, son Raymond (Laura) of Jubail, Saudi Arabia, son Irvin (Vicky) of Herron, daughter Susan Torsch (Ben) of Holton, son Chuck (Delynn) of Hubbard Lake, daughter Rita Klavinski (Terry) of Coldwater, and son Edward (Joscelyn) of Williamston; seven grandchildren John Torsch (Kim), Marshall Torsch, Jessica Beaudoin (Jeff), Jennifer Timm, Jason Timm, Janell Timm, Justin Timm; two great-grandchildren Grace and Andrew Torsch; and sisters-in-law Alice (Bill) Friesen and Hilma Hartman.
Visitation will be held on Saturday June 9th from 5 -8 p.m. and on Sunday June 10th from 1 – 8 p.m. at the Bannan Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will be held on Monday June 11th at the Huron Shores Fellowship Church located at 3558 M-32 West, Alpena with visitation from 12 noon until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. with Pastor Barry Stricker and Pastor Warren Hoffman officiating.
Interment: Evergreen Cemetery next to his parents and brother, August.
