Dolores Christine (Kannowski) Lappan

Dolores Christine (Kannowski) Lappan, 87, of Alpena, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2012, surrounded by her family. 
Dolores Christine Yuker was born in Alpena June 27, 1924 to the late Michael and Anna (Graham) Yuker. She moved to California after her mother died, and returned two years later where she resided with the Fitzpatrick’s at the Globe Hotel. She married Robert Paul Kannowski on March 16, 1944 and raised a family of eight. Bob preceded her in death on September 22, 1988. Dolores and Bob owned and operated Marine Market, supplying the Great Lake freighters with groceries, a family establishment that continues to this day.
Her quick wit and ready sense of humor made everyone she encountered feel comfortable and at ease. She was a card player, bridge being her favorite. Dolores attended college late in her life and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Eastern Michigan University. She loved to travel, including trips to Europe and Africa. Dolores could never pass up an adventure.
Surviving are seven children, Jane (Trueman) Martin, LuAnn Bullington, Bonnie Kannowski, Dolores (Dr. Lawrence) Silbart, Al (Nancy), Graham (Beverly), Max (Crystal); son-in-law, Thomas VanderMey; seventeen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Jane Stoner, Isabelle Fitzpatrick; brother, Warren (Nancy) Spragg; and sister-in-law, June Eschman.
Dolores was preceded in death by a daughter, Roberta VanderMey; grandson, Eli Coulston; brothers, Michael, Emmet and Earl Fitzpatrick; and her second husband Jim Lappan, whom she married in 1994.
Mrs. Kannowski-Lappan is at the Bannan Funeral Home where family and friends may call on Friday from 2-8 p.m. with a parish prayer service 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday at St. Bernard Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until time of funeral mass at 11 a.m.
Interment: Evergreen Cemetery
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Robert and Dolores Kannowski Nursing Program Scholarship Fund at Alpena Community College.
