Wendell Glen Boyd
December 5, 1934 - July 15, 2012
Wendell Glen Boyd, 77, of 259 N. Garden Street, Alpena, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family.
Wendell was born in Battle Creek, Michigan on December 5, 1934 to the late Milo and Beatrice (Balsey) Boyd and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. On March 15, 1956 Wendell married the former Carol Klee. He had been employed at National Gypsum and Lafarge until retiring in 1996.
Wendell was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, attended Bruce Steven’s Bible Study, member of V.F.W. 2496, Romeo Club, and a volunteer at ARMC driving the courtesy van. He also enjoyed woodworking.
Surviving are his wife, Carol; 4 children, Donna and Steven Wiesner of Florida, Wendell Jr. and Cecile of California, Kenneth and Jennifer of Monroe, Glenn and fiancée Shelly Wilke of Alpena; 10 grandchildren, Kimberly, Christopher, Ashley, Rachael, Michael, Brian, Matthew, Benjamin, Heidi, Taylor; 7 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Pauline Phelps of Battle Creek.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Deborah, and a sister, Audrey MacDonald.
Family and friends may call at the Bannan Funeral Home on Monday from 2 – 8 p.m. with full military honors accorded him at 6:00 p.m. by V.F.W. Alpena Post 2496. Visitation will continue on Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. with Rev. James Erickson officiating.
