David Harold DeMeritt, 60, of 2435 Hobbs Drive, Alpena, passed away at home on Tuesday, December 23, 2008, following his long courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

David was born in Hudson, Michigan on May 22, 1948 to Harold and Harriette (Leake) DeMeritt. After graduating from high school, he attended Alpena Community College. David worked for many years at Midway and Giantway Supermarkets and also at LaFarge Corporation.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing sports, going to car and boat shows, and his love of music. He also enjoyed going to church at St. Anne's with his wife, Jane.

Surviving are his wife, Jane (Worniak) of Alpena; son, Brian of Alpena; mother, Harriette of Kalkaska; and 2 sisters, Eleanor (Harold) Schmidt of Onaway and Cynthia (Wehde) of Hartland.

Preceding him in death in 1995 was his father, Harold.

Cremation was handled by Bannan Funeral Home.
